In October 2003, Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 No. 261 returned to home rails - the former Milwaukee Road between Minneapolis and La Crosse, Wisc. - for a pair of excursions sponsored by the Friends of 261 and Amtrak. This was the only outing for 261 in 2003, and the big Northern puts on an impressive show running along the Mississippi River. We catch No. 261 at Hastings, Maple Springs, River Junction, ...
Northfield & Cannon Valley Railroad - 2 Foot Gauge Steam in Minnesota
Просмотров 6 тыс.3 года назад
The Northfield & Cannon Valley was a private 2-foot gauge steam railroad located on a farm near Northfield, Minnesota. In the late 1960s, Jim Machacek purchased a ten-ton, 600mm gauge 0-4-0T steam locomotive and had it shipped to the US from Germany. The locomotive, No. 504, was built for Hans Vattern AG and worked out of Mannheim, Germany, for most of its life. It was originally built by Kolbe...

Heber Creeper - Last Run October 27, 1990
Просмотров 6783 года назад
News report that I recorded thirty years ago about the last run of the Wasatch Mountain Railway (Heber Creeper). This was the final run made under private ownership; power was NW-2 No. 1011. The train would be revived under state ownership in 1993 as the Heber Valley Railroad, but most of the equipment and structures shown in the report were not included, save for locomotive 1011.
Heber Creeper - News Report - Tax Issues 1989

1989 news story by Reece Stein, KUTV (Utah), about the tax issues facing the Heber Creeper. The railroad would go out of business a year later, and then was revived under state ownership in 1993. The grounds and most of the locomotives, cars, and buildings shown were not included when the state took over operation of the railroad, which it renamed the Heber Valley Railroad.
A Day on the Georgetown Loop - 1988

Spend a day on Colorado's Georgetown Loop Railroad in the summer of 1988. The featured locomotive is former West Side Lumber Company 3-truck Shay No. 14, which takes us for a ride up and down Clear Creek Canyon on the first train of the day. We then go trackside for views of No. 14 working hard pulling the train between Silver Plume and Georgetown. You'll also see Shay 8, 2-8-0s 40 and 44, and ...

Rare footage of C&S 2-8-0 No. 71 (Baldwin, 1896) in operation on the Blackhawk & Central City Narrow Gauge Railroad in 1989. This steam tourist railroad was in operation for just a few seasons in the late 1980s, running over a mile of the original C&S grade out of Central City, Colorado. The engine and C&S coach-baggage-express car No. 20 were restored (outdoors) after spending over 40 years as...

Consolidation No. 29 (former Longview, Portland & Northern No. 680) in service on Nevada's rebuilt Virginia & Truckee in the summer of 1982. At that time the train made a short, 30 minute round trip over 1 3/4 miles of track to Tunnel No. 4. The passenger equipment consisted of an open car and a pair of converted cabooses; tickets were sold out of a wooden passenger car in Virginia City.

Colorado's Cripple Creek & Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad is seen in the summer of 1981 running between Cripple Creek and Anaconda. The locomotives in use this day are No. 2, a 1936 German-built 0-4-0 (converted from an 0-4-0T) and No. 3, an 0-4-0T built by Porter in 1927 for a mine in Mexico. The railroad continues in operation today, more-or-less unchanged from the way you see it here.

So sorry I missed seeing her operating. I love the C&S "standard gauge" and their wide gauge 4' 8 1/2" stuff too! LOL
Love the buckeye 3 chime
This was an still is a exciting an beautiful trip to take. You can stay over in Keystone now and take a later trip back to Hill City.
Union Pacific Challenger 3985 is another beautiful steam locomotive that is in operation.
Video in 1981?
4:25 7:04 amazing 6 chime
This was great!
39 minutes to get there and a world away train ride through out my life
4:28 4:50
Both steams still in shop on restorations 20 years and going. The guy running now is garbage. Why no show the 2000 passenger car double header?
Why is the engineer pulling the whistle on 75
Nice Video. Looks like an Awesome Ride.
I LOve this place and I have not been yey, so thank you for the great video's 👍😎
I remember seeing this engine featured in Narrow Gauge and Shortline Gazette many many years ago when they got it running. Very sad it's stuffed and mounted again.
Yes. What a WASTE.
Adorable! I just want to cuddle it! (cold of course)
Be nice if heber valley had a 2-8-2 or GW 51 2-8-0 on their roster
Sucks that open air cars were scrapped.
9:48 whatever happened to those open air cars??
71 Deserves a new lease on life. I feel like she will be right at home on the Georgetown Loop Railroad.
There are plenty of Narrow gauge railroads across the US but there aren't that many 2 foot (610 mm) narrow gauge railroads around. Ironically, this was the chosen gauge railroad width for the cooperative allied forces of World War One because in order to supply troops at the front in their trenches, the allied nations needed a narrow gauge rail that was harmonious with Meters and Feet in order that it fit French, British and American locomotives and railcars that were in existence before the war. 24 inches (2 Feet) equaled 610MM. Also, the rail lines that extended forward as the front moved were much easier to lay down with army troop muscle power due to the lighter weight. One last thing. When Locomotives were unavailable, knocked out or out of steam. Mules could pull the train cars along with not much more effort than that of a street car.

Black Hills Central Railroad 110 0:39 [train whistle] 0:47 [train chugging] 7:41 [train chugging]
I hope the Central City Railroad and Mining Museum comes through and restores this engine again!
Been on the Creeper many times.
I'm glad to see engine 618 in Union Pacific paint scheme. Union Pacific is not a "fallen flag;" people say it's been around since Abraham Lincoln was president.
My mom thinks the name of that town is Eh Bear like the animal.
I wished 75 would run on Heber Creeper too
I wished Heber Valley 75 ran on Heber Creeper too
I thought 75 would do the Heber Creeper event too
0:36
That whistle she's wearing is a canadian pacific 5 chime
A reunion of the CP G5s Pacifics would make a possible event to happen in the future one day!
Thanks for sharing that!
That was her 5 chime before she had an SP 6 Chime in the 90’s.
What happened to 38 now?
It’s undergoing restoration back to operation at the Everett Railroad.
Man I wonder why this only has 45 likes This is an old railroad that used to run steam trains but now it only runs freight trains because of what happened.
Great well edited action video! A definite top 10 all time... and I’m a rail video junkie.
2:50
real sam's whistle
If sam could be in real life. Then I am going to use a Chesapeake and Ohio Allegheny to be the virginian railroad 906 (Sam's basis)
You know why?. Because the virginian railroad Berkshires are the Chesapeake and Ohio kanawhas. But numbered different
I would love to know the whistle of this locomotive that it wore at this time
Lot's of cool to watch your video, thank you 👍😎
Nice clip 👍😎
Excellent footage, I also got a cab ride in #111 & #40. I put up one of my videos and more on it's way. Like your channel and Subscribed 👍😎
NO 618 steam any longer due to poor management of Heber Historical Railroad
Winter Scenery in the Heber Valley is absolutely gorgeous. Can't wait until Union Pacific 618 or another steamer to run on these rails again.
Whatever happened to those cars at 1:05
2:52 isn’t that the same whistle feather river # 8 wore during her operations t V&T
Really like that whistle that 38 is sporting.
That must be the 6 chime that was on 38,
Love to see her with the headlight actually in the center like the olden days but with oil firing instead.
00:00:01 song name please?
Many years ago able ride train in Utah! 😘🚂😀 Mike from Missouri
